I know he said it didn't work in the Join The Dots booklet, but I'd love the band to do Depeche Mode's Walking In My Shoes. I'm sure they could make that sound VERY sleazy...

How about New Orders Blue Monday? That one would be interesting. The Cure covering Peek a Boo would be freaking hallarious! ;D

Weren't they accused of plagarizing Blue Monday, or am I making that up? Seems like I read it somewhere...
Back to my Smiths thing, I've decided that they should do There is a Light That Never Goes Out. This kid was talking about it like it was the "Faith" of Morrissey. So I listened to it, read the lyrics, and it was pleasant enough, but it didn't impress me at all. I'm sure that Robert could sing it better, but that doesn't make up for the crappy writing (not to offend the Moz fans out there...) So I asked someone with an unbiased opinion...
Me: " And if a double-decker bus Crashes into us To die by your side Is such a heavenly way to die And if a ten-ton truck Kills the both of us To die by your side Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine" Me: what says you? Jeff: Kind of boring. Too simple. I dunno. I'll give it an A for "Average." Me: it's The Smiths "There is a Light That Never Goes Out," by the way. this kid was raving about it, but I don't see anything particularly special Jeff: Is it a song? Me: yes Jeff: And slap that kid, by the way. Me: haha. why do you say that? Jeff: And tell the kid I can pack more emotion in a sandwich. Because it was anything but spectacular, much less worth taking the time to rave about.
I found the review amusing... not that this is the "review Moz" thread all of a sudden...

Actually I love There is a Light that Never Goes Out, but for a Smiths song how about Cemetary Gates, How Soon is Now, Gilfriend in a Coma, Rubber Ring... I'll stop now but I could go on and on... But one of the things that makes The Smiths so special (to me anyway) is Johnny Marr's music. He's the icing on the cake. HOW SOON IS NOW? I am the son and the heir of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and heir of nothing in particular You shut your mouth how can you say I go about things the wrong way I am human and I need to be loved just like everybody else does I am the son and the heir of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and the heir of nothing in particular You shut your mouth how can you say I go about things the wrong way I am human and I need to be loved just like everybody else does There's a club if you'd like to go you could meet somebody who really loves you so you go, and you stand on your own and you leave on your own and you go home, and you cry and you want to die When you say it's gonna happen "now" well, when exactly do you mean? see I've already waited too long and all my hope is gone You shut your mouth how can you say I go about things the wrong way I am human and I need to be loved just like everybody else does (keep in mind that i've always thought of this as a gay anthem. )

I really, reeeeeally don't want to see the cure ever cover the smiths, or vice-versa. (fortunately, it's probably the last thing on that would happen anyway.) it just wouldn't be right.

i am in agreement with OJ there. and by the way, there is a light is my fav smiths song in the whole world. it's the way it sounds, the way he sings it, that tone of voice. that song is one of the anthems of my life:
and in the darkened underpass i thought oh god my chance has come at last but a strange fear gripped me and i just couldn't ask

... driving in your car oh please don't drop me home. Because I haven't got one not at all, no I haven't got one. ;D And you're right OJ the styles are just so different they wouldn't have the same charm to them. I really don't think they could do each other justice.
