When I first heard this one, it really did feel like it was going to be the last Cure album. When one of the most inspired songs is about not having any inspiration left, it's normally not a promising sign! I do think they pushed the 'dark trilogy' thing a bit too hard, for me it made it difficult to listen to as an album in it's own right. For me, it's not as powerful as the supposed trilogy predecessors, but it does have it's moments. i love the way Out Of This World just drifts in, and The Last Day Of Summer is one of my favourite songs ever. 39 and Bloodflowers are huge, and do stand comparisons with the other 'dark' albums, but sonically the rest of the album doesn't meet those high standards. Watching Me Fall is good, but does feel a bit too long sometimes (and now sounds like a practice run for The Promise, to me anyway)

this album is very soothing, the music is great, but sometimes the words are a bit stale? (sorry robert ). it just seems to have lost that imagary, it just feels more this is it, you know? but i guess that's the point. maybe someday is my fav. i really like watching me fall on trilogy, i think it sounds much better there than on the live album. but these songs do sound very good live. actually, i've got the last day of summer in my head! and roger does have some great piano work on this album.

I'm lazy and tired, so I'm not gonna talk about all of it. I just wanted to say that my first real Bloodflowers experience (not counting Maybe Someday on Mad TV... for some reason. Though I really fell in love with that song, and it was the little one's favorite for a time. Plus it was my first real Cure experience... but anyway...) was seeing 39 and Bloodflowers live. OH.MY.WORD. What a heck of an introduction to the album! Out of all the songs played that night, Bloodflowers made the biggest impression on me. I just stood there, unmoving, staring at Robert, as if under a spell. Now, when I watch Trilogy and they cut away from Robert during Bloodflowers, something within me lurches forward and says, "WHY ARE YOU NOT FILMING ROBERT?!"
Not to mention, Robert sang the end of Bloodflowers so incredibly loud that I could hear him without the mic. It was just kinda like, "Wow, someone sings incredibly well and... wait... that IS him..."
It's probably my favorite album to listen to while doing homework. I kind of lose myself in the atmosphere of the music.
Yeah, I talk too much.

for me, bloodflowers was a relief after the wild mood swings scare. heh! they started to sound like a band again, although still not quite playing or writing at the same level as before. like leo said- some of the ideas seemed re-heated, both lyrically and musically, but at least they weren't using pop-princess keyboard sounds anymore (cue strange attraction!). again, the recording was a bit thin/flat. the songs sound so much better live.

It's all great live but largely pompous on record. I think this is the most over-rated Cure album. I very rarely listen to it, I'm more likely to watch the Trilogy DVD than listen to this.

but at least they weren't using pop-princess keyboard sounds anymore (cue strange attraction!). Haha! I'd never quite found the words to describe that keyboard part, but you just did it perfectly! I should stop thinking and just let others do it for me. Yeah, I definitely watch it on Trilogy way more often then listening to it...

'push' has my favorite long intro- it goes a whole verse/chorus progression before the words even start- but yeah, that's the wrong album, too...

i also like this album, i don't think it's over rated cuz i hear everyone with the same "over rated" complaint. i thought the songs were beautiful.i like 39 but i think the last day of summer was drawn out a bit too long.

I remember when I first started listening to The Cure, people were bashing this album.
But screw them. The only thing I regret is not buying it sooner, lol. I love it so much.
Every track is amazing!!
(Sorry Crimson, lol.)

I couldn't understand why other cure fans didn't like this album--i thought it to be awsome and i still think that it's a good album, even if it's not my favourite anymore.
