I love this one! 10 perfect tracks, that all run seamlessly. It goes all over the place, yet it somehow all fits as one at the same time! Inbetween Days is perfect pop, and can cheer me up on the darkest of days. Kyoto Song is gorgeous, but then I've always had a soft spot for Japanese instrumentation... A Night Like This is one of my favourite Cure tracks of all, a great example of when they do a track that is both melancholic and upbeat at the same time. And Sinking is a great way to finish it, a howl of despair that somehow crowns the melange of styles that have preceded it.

this is blasphemy, but this is my least favorite i don't know why, it just does nothing for me well, that's not fair. push, close to me, kyoto song, yeah, i love those. but on the whole, i just don't listen to it too much. i like the re-mix of CTM on mixed up, because it's long, and the extra instruments add something to it. but in other news, this is my sister's absolute favo cure album!

actually, I'd agree that the original close to me (on the album) is a bit flat, but I prefer the one that's on Standing On a Beach. There's also a longer version of that one that I really hope they'll put on the remaster, because it is soooo superior to the Mixed Up one!

In a way this is the best the Cure ever got, relaxing a little without being hugely succesful commercially. I still think it's between Inbetween Days and Just Like Heaven for their best pop song.

Yep I loves it too (sure I've mentioned that from time to time. ) Close to Me, Kyoto Song, InBetween Days *sigh*... good stuff. And for some reason I love A Night Like This... Man they should still play it with the sax... you just don't get any good sax these days.

I remember when I first talked to my friend Justina. She said that The Head on the Door is perfect, much how Dandy's described here.
I'm an inbetween. Sometimes there's absolutely nothing better than listening to The Head on the Door, but sometimes when thinking about it, it seems kinda boring. When I'm listening to it, however, it's NEVER boring. It's odd, and I can't really describe it...
What really strikes me is that whenever I ask the little one which Cure album we should listen to, she says "THE HEAD ON THE DOOR!" I'm not sure why, but I find that amazing and wonderful.

i agree with much of what you say... cult-- true! the sax is what makes the song , i feel it's incomplete without it.

actually, ghani hit "the nail on the head" that's how i feel, i never feel like listening to it, but when i do i'm like, wow this is good, why don't i listen? actually, a night like this is great, and the sax totally makes the song. i think i just hear that one so much, i need a break.

and in my opinion, the 5 b sides they could have used too are all peerless... exploding Boy, a Few Hours After This, Stop Dead, A Man Inside My Mouth and New Day are all classics, and in most other bands' repertoires would count as personal bests...
