Ok, I know we've already got a forum for the reissue, and what we think should be on it, but thought I'd do one for the album anyway, seeing as I've done most of the others! This one comes very high on my list of Cure albums, and while I can see why some people consider it a 'dark' album, I think it's laden with wicked (in the good way!) pop hooks throughout. Play For Today, M, In Your House and Secrets are all classy, but probably get overshadowed by the fact this is 'the album with A Forest on it'. (but if you only have A Forest from G Hits/Standing On A Beach, you need this just for the spooky intro!) Even the more experimental stuff and instumental incidents (Three, A Reflection, The Final Sound) all fit perfectly. The only track that really lets the side down for me is the title track, but I do like the out of time drumming that picks up as the song progresses (yes I realise I'm paying Tolhurst a complement here, but credit where it's due)

this is my fav "early" album. in your house and m are my favs. yeah, hearing a forest without the intro is like, not hearing anything properly. the song sounds so much better with it, it's like a completely different tune. i love the instrumental tracks, because i love trying to figure out what he's rambling.

It has a quirky, almost half finished charm to it. It is I suppose the album that made the Cure what they are and without this there wouldn't be Faith or Pornography. Interestingly I've heard some bootlegs of them live around this time and the songs sound a lot sharper live.

This album is... perfect. Crimson's right, it does have a sort of half-finished charm to it. It seems rather simple (not that I write or play music, so I guess I'm no authority), but just brilliant. I agree that Seventeen Seconds is my least favorite track on it... especially when I think about listening to it. But then whenever it actually starts, I end up getting into it. Odd how that happens a lot. I really can't seem to find the words to describe the album, or why I love it, but... I'm sure you guys understand. I don't think I need to sell it to anyone . I'm absolutely bubbling with excitement over the remaster.

even though it does sound half-finished (and it always seems too short), it's an important album because it's like a piece of cure dna.
you can hear nuggets of what's to come in the inspired pop hooks that dandy mentioned, the dark anthem of 'a forest,' and the little, roaming ideas that were never really finished off. the drastic change in recording techniques also showed that they weren't afraid to experiment and take off in a strange direction (& make it work!).

Okay, I found something better to say:
Out of every Cure album, this one impressed me the most. I mean, some of them are hyped so much that you KNOW they're going to be good (*cough* Disintegration *cough*), but I had no idea what to expect from this one and it hit me out of nowhere.
Oh man, I still can't seem to describe why I love this album so much... I'll have to work on that...
