It’s the Cure Trivia Contest:
OK folks here we go… it’s the unofficial Cure Trivia Contest.
What do you win? We’ll, aren’t we a greedy bunch! You’ll win the satisfaction of knowing you are indeed a true Cure fan. Plus, you can sneer down at all those who answered these questions wrong…
Thanks to everyone who helped put these questions together…
1.) An easy one at first: what was the original name of The Cure?
Extra credit: If you mix the letters of “The Cure” around you can come up with a title to one of their songs. Robert at one point thought this would be their last song. What is the name of this song?
2.) What song was Robert’s wedding gift to his wife Mary?
Extra credit (and a hint): At what position did this song debut on the U.S. charts?
3.) Name the first album Robert can remember purchasing?
4.) What member of the Cure, current or former, is Robert’s brother in law?
5.) The Cure have performed on 5 continents. Which 2 have they not performed on?
6.) Not including session players and temporary replacements, how many official members has there been in the Cure? (Hint: Some members have switched instruments so be sure not to double count…)
7.) Robert is allergic to what food?
8.) What song was Lol Tolhurst unable to play on drums?
Extra credit: Because of this, he switched over to playing which instrument?
9.) The B-Side to “Charlotte Sometimes” is?
10.) Robert’s side project The Glove is a collaboration with?
Extra credit: What is the name of the female vocalist on this album (hint: it is a one word name)?
Answers will be posted in a week or so!!!!

ah, a true fan... well since you posted here...I'll have to tell you that i think a true fan is anyone the feels that thrill in their soul when they hear the music. anyone the feels that sadness, anger, bitterness and love. it's not about how much pointless triva you know. as long as you know how you feel. what the point of knowing What member of the Cure, current or former, is Robert’s brother in law? what's the point? oh well that's my rant.

I agree with Sangre- I don't care if you can't answer ANY of the questions. You're a true fan if the music moves you.
But... trivia is fun too, so here goes:
1. TGM got it. x-credit: cut here 2. lovesong, debuted at #58 (on my birthday in 1989). 3. depends on which interview you believe. 4. porl thompson 5. TGM got that one too. 6. 12 if you count andy anderson & phil thornalley. 10 if you don't. 7. I dunno. 8. I'm guessing lovecats. x-credit: keys. 9. splintered in her head. 10. steve severin of siouxie & the banshees. the single was 'like an animal' the singer was jeanette landray.

Obelisk, then Malice, then Easy Cure...
but Easy Cure was the first lineup in which Robert became the frontman, so I went with that. ;D

Okay, I wasn't going to write anything, but it's been weighing on me for some odd reason, so here's my two cents:
It is a bit disrespectful to come in here and tell us that you are a true Cure if you know the answers to these questions. I'm quite sure that you didn't mean it this way, and Sangre definitely isn't anti-fun. I myself have had some bad trivia experiences (i.e. LotR message boards, hehe) and have been made to feel "less than" because I didn't know as much as someone else (who was usually 20+ years older than me). Certainly, that's not how trivia should be. I personally love answering trivia questions, but it's pretty pointless for me to answer these now because everyone else has already said everything I know.
The real problem I have is with your response to Sangre. I feel that it would've been more appropriate to just say something along the lines of, "Sorry, I'm just being silly. It's just for fun, of course, and I'm not trying to judge anyone." It seems like a bit of an attack. Many of us, I'm sure, don't especially like being judged, and come here to get away from all of that. One of the beautiful things about this message board is that there are people here from many different stages in their "fandom." I myself only became a fan last year. I don't think this makes me any less of a fan, or a bad person.
I hope you don't think I'm too anal. This is just my opinion, and I realize that it means nothing. I am merely expressing it, as I hope all of you will. Hopefully this will help you see it in another light.
